About·the·Artist

Leslie Channel is a Bay Area native and conceptual artist currently focusing on themes of representation, identity, and consumerism.  Her present endeavor, Confederate Articles, is a self-reflective, multidisciplinary approach incorporating elements of surface alteration, fashion, and photography.  It explores and challenges notions of cultural essentialism with the goal of mirroring, transforming, and expanding the visual, and perhaps experienced, realities of those who come into contact with it.  She is completing the project under the alias Mayson Dickson.

Leslie has contributed her creative tendencies to many artistic undertakings including: co-founding Secretly Y’all, a Virginia-based storytelling collective; assisting visual artist Aaron Fein with White Flags, a tribute to 9/11, which has been exhibited at Vassar College and was installed at Union Theological Seminary’s James Chapel in NYC; and working as  a theatrical costumer and seamstress, a career that spans 7 years and just as many US states.  She recently showed original works at the California Academy of Sciences: Nightlife, and Million Fishes Arts Collective group show, where she currently holds a residency.

Confederate Articles is her first independent artistic effort.
