About·the·Blog

*****This page is under construction.  Watch your head!*****

Hi!  Thanks for visiting the weblog for the Confederate Articles project.  Feel free to have a look around – there’s a lot going on here!

This blog serves as my digital sketchbook, a place where I can keep track of and record the various places my imagination directs me as I get ready to complete this 365 day fashion/photo adventure.  I am preparing mentally, physically and emotionally to wear the garments that I am constructing for one year.  These garments are based on the shapes found in the Confederate flag.  It’s been a pretty intense journey so far, but I’ve also had a ton of fun.

I generally try to post something everyday.  From music videos,  to ideas and concepts my brain is stuck on, to other artists who have done thematically similar works, to books I’ve read, to fashion designers and shows – this space acts as a survey of everything going on in the world that might relate back to my what I’m doing.

I’ve always been a naturally curious person, prone to exploration and questioning.  This blog is mostly my way of figuring out where the art I’m making fits into this big (but small) world (after all).

I try to include information about my creative process and the things that I am doing to cultivate my artistic vision and goals.  As it turns out, writing is a big part of my creative process.  Gathering information (through books, the internet, and personal experiences), writing down and saving what I’ve found, and integrating that information into an ever-expanding body of knowledge helps me in many ways.

Gratitude and recognition very important to me.  I really enjoy showcasing and honoring other artists and the contributions that they’ve made.  I realize that I am able to do this work because of others who came before me, and in exchange I find encouragement to continue down this path I’ve chosen.  It’s really a beautiful thing.

I’ve made a road map that will help you navigate this site.  I tend to post in series.  Below is a list of the most common types of posts you will find here and descriptions of what they contain.  Clicking the links will take you to the first post in a series.  I’ve tried to link all of the posts so you should be able to navigate by post type if that’s something you want to do.  Happy travels!

Article·of·Inspiration posts feature artists whose work is thematically similar to or inspires my own.

Harmonic·Article posts feature songs with lyrics that relate to some aspect of this project.  My favorite themes are clothing, sewing, bodies, dreams, love, and fabric.

Meeting·Myself posts are self-reflective.  I use them to figure out where I am in my creative process and show the work I’ve been doing.

Article·of·Style posts feature fashion designers that I find interesting or inspiring.

The Between·the·Sheets series was my cursory investigation of black female sexuality.  Since my body will be the ‘”canvas” of the project, and bodies are inherently sexy, I’ve decided to explore the ways that black female sexuality has been represented in popular media, as well as the way I express my sexuality.

He·art·work posts feature pictures I have taken in San Francisco of hearts or on the subject of love and affection.  It’s my way of finding love everywhere I go.

I regularly post Works of Art on the theme of sewing or fashion.

Notions posts are a just for fun series I started after eating too many fortune cookies.  They’re encouraging for me!

Take the plunge and start from the beginning, working forward from there.

Love and Enjoy!
